Culms 4-10 m tall, 2-5 cm in diam.; internodes 25-60 cm long; nodes prominent; with manybranches; walls thin.
Sheath of culm deciduous, coriaceous, glabrous, sometimes with dense dark brown hairs on outsides, entire; sheaths-auricles inconspicuous; ligule of sheath narrow or inconspicuous, entire; blade of sheath triangular, glabrous entire. Leaves 5-11, linear-lanceolate, 9-27 cm long, 1.5-3.5 cm broad, veins 5-7, veinlets 7-10, petiole short; auricles of leaf conspicuous, with tufts of white bristles when young, glabrescent when old; ligule of leafs rounded, 4-6 cm long, 1 cm in diam., 6-8 flowered; glumes 2, 8 mm long, glabrous; lemma 20-22 mm long, 8-11 mm wide, glabrous, 19-23 veined; palea 16 mm long, 6 mm wide, trifid at tip, margins hairy, veins 7 between keel and edge, gynoecium 6 mm long; ovary obovate, 2 mm long, 1.3 mm in diam., hairy, with 2 vascular strands seen in cross section; style short with 3 feathery stigmas; stamens 6, anthers 11 mm long, 1.5 mm wide; lodicules, 4 mm long, 2 mm wide.
